Royal Navy Armed Cutter
Stationed in the Mediterranean waters during the early 1800's, this heavilt armed lateen-rigged 32-ft ship's boat mounts a 4-pounder cannon on a sliding gun-carriage fitted with recoil ropes, further supported by 2 half-pounder swivel cannon aft. (All are made from cast brass.) Detail includes ready powder charges, cannonballs, gun handling tools and non-slip deck gratings around the gun. Le Coureur French Lugger
A hand-made model in wood of Le Coureur ("the runner"), a very fast raiding lugger or chasse-maree launched just before the French Revolution. She has a three-masted lug-sail and is armed with eight cannon. Detail includes a plank-on-plank clinker built hull, main and foresail reefing lines, adjustable rigging, individually planked main and poop decks, ship's boat and windlass forward, with decjhouses over her aft accommodation. Instantly recognisable by the long boom or "bumpkin" projecting from her stern. Length 800mm, height 650mm, beam 170mm (32" x 26" x 7")
