Two eight-day mechanical movements: one for the clock and one for the chimes to mark the time-honoured "Ship's Bells" naval watch system - four hours on, four hours off. Each half-hour is marked by an increasing number of strikes until "eight-bells" i.e., time to change over.
Supplied with a steel key for winding.
